New WA surrogacy laws which will come into force early next year have been passed in WA by both houses of parliament. The new surrogacy laws will allow couples as well as single mothers and homosexuals to have access to surrogacy. ACL WA Director Michelle Pearse said various WA Governments had already paved the way for single women to have access to IVF, artificial insemination and adoption, and now surrogacy has been added to the list. Mrs Pearse said it was disappointing that there was no requirements that surrogacy should only occur within a committed relationship between a man and a woman. She said it would lead to an increasing amount of children brought up without a father.
