Sexed-up kids

Material has been released to Kids Free 2B Kids under the Freedom of Information Act which confirms that children aged 10-12 were asked to appear “more adult and sexy” in David Jones advertising. David Jones and Saatchi & Saatchi, the advertising firm responsible for DJs children’s wear campaign has strongly denied it sexualised children in a 3yr legal battle with campaigners such as the Australia Institute. Kids Free 2B Kids will be in Perth in November.

Applications for more than 27,000 dwelling have been received in round two of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS). Under NRAS the Federal Government plans to build 50,000 new rental properties by 2012 that will be rented out at 20% below market rate in return for a Government incentive of $8000 per property per year over 10 years. In the second round 1644 will be built in WA. In the first round 401 went to WA.

New Childcare Minister Kate Ellis has confirmed that a Labor commitment to score childcare centres from A to E is to be dumped. Ellis is creating a curriculum for 4yr old kids. The draft “Early years learning framework” will be introduced late this year. It has been criticised as creating political activists. Family Law

Changes to the Family Law Act by Howard’s Govt that were supposed to simplify child custody cases is creating confusion 3 years on. The changes meant separated parents should share children 50/50. Now there have been reports of young breast-feed babies having to spend their days back and forth between the parents in order to get feed. It has meant that parents had to live in close proximity and can not relocate. For more:
