Drinking Age

The Christian Democratic Party is joining other groups in calling for an increase in the drinking age. The West Australian (Nov 19, p7 “push to lift legal drinking age”) reported that some were calling for the age to be raised to 19. In NSW, CDP’s leader Rev Fred Nile is calling for a 0% blood alcohol level for all drivers under the age of 21.

You can answer the West Poll which asks: Do you agree with a suggestion to increase the drinking age to 19? As at Nov 26, 4435 votes had been received. 71% were in favour of raising the drinking age to 19.

Sex Party

The Australian Sex Party, backed by the Porn Industry’s Eros Foundation is pushing to have X-rate pornography legalised for sale across Australia. To help them in their campaign they are running a vote on their website with the question: “Should bans on the sale of X-rated (non-violent) films in the Australian states be lifted?”

Action: Saltshakers says that while they don’t normally encourage people to get involved in their votes they seem to be struggling to get voters. As at Nov 26 1867 votes were received with 60% supporting the bans being lifted. Saltshakers asks people to vote No on the poll but warns people that while it is not a porn site, but a political party site, it is the SEX party. To vote:http://www.sexparty.org.au/

Packed to the Rafters

The Australian Christian Lobby reports that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is to investigate an episode of Channel Seven’s popular Packed to the Rafters program in response to a complaint from Christian community group FamilyVoice Australia.

In late September there was a public outcry about a smutty episode of the supposedly ‘family friendly’ program which featured raunchy fantasy scenes and other inappropriate sexual material.

To watch offending scene and for story: http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,28383,26122237-10229,00.html

To see FamilyVoice press release: http://www.acl.org.au/national/browse.stw?article_id=29586

ACL says that this underscores yet again why self-regulation of the standard of content on television really isn’t working.

Copenhagen

Saltshakers is urging people to write to their local members of Federal Parliament urging them not to support the Govt’s emission trading legislation and to sign a petition by Senator Barnaby Joyce against the ETS.

Saltshakers says: Whilst we are being criticised by a few people for opposing the current international obsession with ‘Climate Change’ (which, of course, was originally called ‘Global Warming) because they do not see it as a “Christian moral issue”, we see it very much as a matter of truth. We believe a proper Biblical worldview includes matters of the environment as well as issues like abortion and homosexuality.

Action: Saltshakers urges people to sign the Barnaby Joyce petition:http://www.barnabyjoyce.com.au/Issues/Petition/tabid/99/Default.aspx
