Charter of Rights

The Fed Govt has announced it would not introduce a charter of rights-for now. However it will put in place more stringent requirements that bills before parliament be scrutinised to ensure that they meet Australia’s Human Rights obligations to the United Nations. The Govt will also establish a national education campaign on human rights. Saltshakers says there are dangers in the measures being proposed by the Govt as outlined in the “Australia’s Human Rights Framework.”

Euthanasia

After several delays WA Greens MP Robin Chapple is expected to conduct the first reading of the Voluntary Euthanasia Bill (2009) in Parliament on May 20, 2010 and is likely to be debated in Parliament July 1.

Action: WA Christian leaders involved in fighting this euthanasia bill are asking people to commence writing letters from May 20 to the six Upper House members in whose region they reside. They are also asking people to make appointments to speak face-to-face to their upper house members. To have the desired effect and not waste efforts they are suggesting that people ONLY write to their own Upper House members and not to those in a different region. They also suggest not to copy letters or send them en masse. Individual letters are far more effective.

To check out what Upper House region you are in, visit: www.boundarieswa.com

Clash of the Titans

From www.movieguide.org

Very strong, mixed pagan world view with strong humanist elements mixed with strong false religion, Much violence. From the viewpoint of a Christ follower, it is hard not to see the emptiness of pagan god belief. Zeus even says to his son Perseus about the humans, “I wanted their worship but I didn’t want it to cost me a son.” The pagan “god” does not have the heart of the Heavenly Father who so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice.

Nigerian Killings

In Nigeria two Christian journalists and five others have been killed, reportedly by a group of Muslims. Open Doors Australia is asking people to write a letter of encouragement to a family devastated by violence in Nigeria. They ask that you do not mention Open Doors in your letter, be encouraging, keep the message brief, include 1-2 Bible verses. Greeting cards, artwork by children and postcards are the best. Send the cards in an envelope to:

Open Doors Australia, PO Box 6237, Frenchs Forest NSW 2086

Open Doors will then send it on to the persecuted.
