Christian Decline?

The West Australian reported June 15, 2010 on a survey undertaken by the Christian Research Association that found a big decline in Christians in Australia. The survey found that only 16% attend a religious service at least once a month, compared to 23% in 1993.

Meanwhile, in what has been described as a miracle, the number of people wanting to become priests has undergone a revival. Only a few years ago the Catholic Church was getting close to closing down its seminaries with dwindling numbers of people studying for the priesthood. Father Anthony Percy is quoted as attributing the increased interest to a postmodern world lacking in beliefs and values. “Many young people are seeking something solid,” he said. The World Youth Days also may have led to an increase in interest.
