Gambling Online

The Economist is running a debate until July 30, 2010 on Gambling with the motion: “This house believes there should be no legal restrictions on gambling.”

An Economist report July 8, 2010 says online gambling is expected to rise internationally by 13% a year to reach $36b by 2012. In Australia it is relatively low at 3.4% of total gambling, compared with 17.2% in the US. The Economist says laws need to keep up with the growth in internet gambling.

Meanwhile, EU Business reports July 8, 2010 that the European Court of Justice has backed Sweden’s ban on the advertising of online gambling on the grounds of public order.
