Record Abortions

A record number of teenagers are having abortions in WA, according to a report by Anthony Deceglie in the Sunday Times Aug 15, 2010. The report said that 44 girls aged 14 or younger terminated a pregnancy last year-double the number of six years ago. The Australian Christian Lobby WA Director Michelle Pearce said the sexualised media environment and a curtailing of childhood were partly to blame for the increase.

Western Civilisation

The Institute of Public Affairs has developed the “Foundations of Western Civilisation Program.” This program will consider civil society, liberal democracy, religious freedom, individual rights and free inquiry. A brief about the program states: “Unfortunately there is now a widely-held view that religious perspectives on current political, social and policy issues are not legitimate. Instead, many commentators believe that the only valid perspective in public debate is a secular and rationalist one. By deliberately excluding religious perspectives, Australian policy discourse is narrow and unrepresentative.”

Islam against Voting

Hizb ut-Tahrir spokesman Uthman Badar argues (pg 16 Crescent Times, August issue) that voting does not comply with Islamic teaching. “The reality of the secular political system is that we are asked to vote for a person or party (as in Australia) who will rule, invariably, by other than Islam – and ruling or judgment by other than Islam is definitively prohibited. In turn, voting for such an outcome is itself prohibited,” Badar writes. The Australian writer Sally Neighbour (July 2, 2010) describes Hizb ut-Tahrir as an international organisation dedicated to the creation of a transnational Islamic state governed purely by Sharia law.

One Vote

About 130 people attended the Christian Crisis Meeting held at UWA, 26 July 2010. A new advertising campaign ‘One Vote can make a Difference’ that highlights the concern with the Greens was launched. CDP State Director Ray Moran outlined a strategy to try to show the advert in as many churches as possible in order to warn Christians of what the Greens real aims are.

Action: Christians are asked to share the dvd in their churches, via facebook or other means.
