Suffering Sunday

The Barnabas Fund is asking people to dedicate one Sunday in November to remembering those in persecution over their Christian Faith. The theme of this year’s Suffering Church Sunday is “Be on your guard”, reflecting Barnabas Fund’s growing concerns over the Freedom of Christians in the West. “Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.” (1 John 3:13). Iraq Christians

On Sunday Oct 31, 2010 a week after the close of the Vatican Bishops Synod on the Middle East, armed men connected to one of the main political parties of Iraq entered a Church in Baghdad, Iraq during evening Mass, killed the priest and more than 50 worshippers. It is possibly the worse attack on Christians since 2003 in Iraq. The number of Chaldean Catholics in Iraq has declined by 1m people to less than 500,000. Source: Inside the Vatican.

In further violence, a car bomb killed 6 Christians in Baghdad.

Bible Reading

Churches in El Salvador have been divided after the Govt passed Decreto 411 in July, making it mandatory that schools begin each day with seven minutes of Bible reading as a way to try to counter the violence in the country. However there are concerns that Catholics and Protestants could pick their texts in their respective favour and concern about proselytism.
