WA Prostitution

People have until July 29 to make comment on the draft bill which could be tabled in Parliament in August. The Australian Christian Lobby says it is still a good time to write to local MPs. The proposed prostitution model will, for the first time, legalise prostitution in WA.

As at June 17, 452 people had sent a letter to their MP using this service.

Action: The Association for Reformed Political Action and other Christian organisations are asking people to write to their local State MP.

Abetz Helpers Needed

Southern River MLA Peter Abetz is seeking helpers to serve at a morning tea he is hosting where community leaders and residents can meet Premier Colin Barnett. It will be held July 22 at the Canning Vale College Performing Arts Centre (26 Dumbarton Rd, Canning Vale). He is looking for people who can bake homemade cookies, sandwiches or scones and 15 people to help serve tea and coffee.

WA Youth Parliament

More than 50 young West Australians have taken part last week in the 16th annual Youth Parliament at Parliament House which is coordinated by YMCA. Opening the Parliament Youth Minister Robyn McSweeney said: “The Youth Parliament program provides a forum for young people to debate issues, often the starting point for bringing about positive social change,” she said.

Gambling Positive?

WA Premier Colin Barnett believes that WA gambling provides benefit to the community. The State Govt run Lotterywest took $114 million in gambling money from Western Australians and gave to community projects. “These grants make a profound difference to the lives of all West Australians,” Mr Barnett said in a statement.

Tasmanian Youth Parliament

The Tasmanian Youth Parliament will be held in September 2011. Participants will form Government and Opposition and debate issues in state politics which are important to them. Besides a camp from Sept 4-10 participants will attend training days on July 30 in Launceston and July 31 in Hobart.
