Tassie Same Sex Marriage Bill defeated

The Tasmanian Upper House has voted against a same-sex marriage bill.  The Lower House had become the first Australian parliament to pass a bill to legalise same-sex marriage. The bill was co-sponsored by Premier Lara Giddings and Greens leader Nick McKim.

Homosexual Bill in WA

GREENS MLC, Lynn MacLaren has given notice that she will move that a Bill (Marriage Equality Bill 2012) for “An Act to provide for marriage equality, including the authorisation of celebrants, the registration of same-sex marriages via an amendment to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1998, and to provide for the dissolution and annulment of same-sex marriages and for related financial matters via amendments to the Family Court Act 1997.” be introduced and read a first time. It will not be debated until after the state election in March 2013.

Prostitution on WA/QLD Govt Agenda

The West Australian Govt proposed prostition legislation will not be debated until after the State election, to be held in March 2013. After the election the bill will get an easier passage if the Liberal Govt increases its majority. Premier Barnett has said that he will make the prostitution legislation an election issue.

Action: FamilyVoice, the Association for Reformed Political Action and other groups are asking people to write to their local MP to explain their concerns with the legislation.

Philippines substitute Reproductive Health Bill

The Philippines House of Reps has developed a new Reproductive Health Bill which it hopes will be approved by the end of 2012.

Ireland’s first abortion clinic opens

On Oct 18 2012 Ireland’s first abortion clinic was opened to protests from Catholics and Protestants. It is operated by international abortion conglomorate Marie Stopes. About 200 people protested as the doors opened to the Belfast clinic waving placards reading “Keep Ireland abortion free”. It will offer the abortion pill to women who are less than 9 weeks pregnant if doctors determine the woman is at risk of death or long-term health damage from their pregnancy. Ireland maintains strong laws to prevent abortion compared to other countries such as the US or Australia. For story click here.

Euthanasia push in Vancouver

Exit International, the pro-euthanasia organisation run by Australian “Dr Death” Philip Nitschke is holding a workshop at the Vancouver Unitarian Church in late November. The workshop will discuss ways to kill yourself. According to Exit, the workshop “Adopts a harm minimisation framework” and is presented by Dr Nitschke.

21 obscenities and profanities, including one “f” word; light comic violence such as man has to run from paparrazi chasing him; strong sexual immorality (but implied) includes implied adulterous sex, crude sexual discussion in one scene mentions lesbian behavior and other sexual experiences, married man lies in bed with two women, young man lives with his girlfriend and is successfully seduced by her best friend, actor tries to seduce married woman but a robber interrupts them and successfully seduces her instead, and prostitute is sent to wrong room and eventually has a rendezvous with the married man there; upper male nudity; alcohol use; no smoking or drugs; and, manipulative woman but she’s implicitly rebuked, lying, cheating, robbery in one scene.” For full review click here.
