Church is losing Influence in the Philippines

A report by Associated Press journalist Hrvoje Hranjski (Jan 3, 2013, New Law Points to Philippines Church’s Waning Sway) says that the recent passing of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act 2012 in the Philippines shows that the Catholic Church no longer has sway over the masses as it did during President Marcos’ time.

The law, which now faces a legal challenge in the Supreme Court, gives Govt funding for contraceptives.  According to the Associated Press article, “Catholic leaders consider the law an attack on the church’s core values — the sanctity of life — saying that contraceptives promote promiscuity and destroy life.”

Movie-This is 40

From movieguide.org: “Very strong mixed pagan worldview with some light moral elements to give the movie some kind of real meaning, some humanist tones of running your life and your family’s life on your own without God.  at least 145 mostly strong obscenities (mostly “f” words, including several by a teenage girl), 12 strong profanities, 17 light profanities, and an obscene gesture during the story with at least 20 obscenities and three light profanities in an outtake scene during the credits.” “THIS IS 40 lacks a strong moral and religious center. MOVIEGUIDE® recalls only one possible positive mention of God, but there are at least 32 examples of profanities using God or Jesus.”

Movie- Les Miserables

From movieguide.org: Is a brilliant adaptation of this inspiring, spiritually uplifting Christian story that beautifully depicts God’s transformational powers though the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but it contains some harsh scenes showing the brokenness of humanity without God. Movie- Parental Guidance

From www.movieguide.org: Very strong moral, pro-parent, pro-family worldview with some strong but brief content supporting traditional American values of tough love and competition satirizing today’s feely touchy liberal parenting and liberal antagonism against teaching children how to compete in sports; no foul language but some scatological content that younger children may emulate.
