Puberty in Health and Physical Education Curriculum

The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority has released the final shape paper which proposes a sequence of learning that covers a range of key concepts in Health and Physical Education across the years of schooling. These include:   healthy choices, movement skills and strategies, physical activity participation, relationships, growing and changing, personal identities and resilience.

The focus of learning in “growing and changing” will be on the ways that the body grows and changes as students get older.

The community will have opportunity to provide feedback when the draft curriculum is released for national consultation in early 2013.

School Chaplains

The Federal Govt has ruled that the School Chaplains program no longer required Chaplains and plans to make the changes in 2012. Instead a secular student welfare worker could also do the job. The program will be renamed the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program to reflect is broader scope, says School Education Minister Peter Garrett. He said he wanted to give schools greater choice. The Age Newspaper ran a poll where 88% of 1795 participants said they favoured the use of secular counsellors instead of chaplains.
