Green’s New Euthanasia Stand?

In the latest newsletter of Exit International, Euthanasia campaigner Philip Nitschke expresses concern with the change in leadership of the Australian Greens. Nitschke says that Exit has lost a ‘powerful friend and ally” with the retirement of Bob Brown. He says that new Greens Leader Christine Milne is no friend of the Voluntary Euthanasia issue. “Ms Milne was educated at St Mary’s College Hobart, is a practising Catholic and has previously been employed by the Church as an advisor on environmental issues.”

Nitschke goes on to say: “I am not anti-Church or anti-faith, but I am concerned with the increasing religiosity of our politicians and the way the Church is able to systematically infiltrate public policy in this country. We’ll await with interest the new Green’s leaders first parliamentary statement on this issue.”

Euthanasia Drug Reprieve

Exit International reports in its March 2012 newsletter that The Therapeutic Goods Administration has given a three month reprieve to ban the lethal drug Doloxene (dextropropoxyphene) after the drug company Aspen Pharmacare appealed the decision to deregister the drug on March 1, 2012. The newsletter says that the AMA and Consumers Health Forum both claim that the drug represents a ‘major consumer safety issue.’ Exit International is a pro-euthanasia group headed up by Philip Nitschke.
