Sydney World Family Congress- Bill Muehlenberg report

The World Family Congress was held in Sydney May 15-18 2013. It brought together the world’s top experts on Family research and Family lobby organisations. Around 100 international speakers were present. According to Bill Muehlenberg, from Culture Watch, if you were not at WCF7 ‘you missed out big time. AFL Considers Homosexual Game

Eloise Johnstone from the Bendigo Advertiser reports March 6 2013 that the AFL is believed to be considering a ‘gay pride’ game this year. She reports that AFL footballers took part in Victoria’s Gay Pride March in February. 

Action: The Australian Family Association asks that you vote ‘No’ to a gay pride round in the poll run by the newspaper.

As at March 7, 50% had voted in favour of a gay pride game.

US Abortion figures down but still high

Abortions in the US fell 5% in 2009 according to the Abortion Surveillance Report released Nov 21 by US Government’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There were 784,507 abortions in the US although not all states report abortion statistics. For example, California has an estimated 200,000 abortions a year but does not report. The abortion rate was 15.1 abortions per 1000 woman aged 15-44 and the abortion ratio was 227 abortions to 1000 live births. In 1990 there were 1.6m abortions in the US. By comparison, the Netherlands, with one of the lowest abortion rates in the Western World had 8.7 abortions per 1000 woman (30,984  abortions in 2010) and the abortion rate was 167.6 abortions to 1000 live births (2010 figures). In Australia, it is estimated by Family Planning Queensland, that there are more abortions than live births.

Homosexual Bill in WA

GREENS MLC, Lynn MacLaren has given notice that she will move that a Bill (Marriage Equality Bill 2012) for “An Act to provide for marriage equality, including the authorisation of celebrants, the registration of same-sex marriages via an amendment to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1998, and to provide for the dissolution and annulment of same-sex marriages and for related financial matters via amendments to the Family Court Act 1997.” be introduced and read a first time. It will not be debated until after the state election in March 2013.
