Abortion Funding

The Federal Govt announced that it is doubling aid funding targetted at reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in the Asia-Pacific Region to $50m by 2016. Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr said: “All woman have a right to basic reproductive health care and family planning advice.” One of the receipeints of the money is international abortion firm, International Planned Parenthood Federation.

The Australian Christian Lobby chief of staff Lyle Shelton said that the money should focus on maternal health and birthing clinics rather than pay for abortion advice and services. The Labor Govt started paying for abortions carried out in other countries in 2009.
