Dutch Christian Union MPs investigate Swedish Model on Prostitution

“Dutch MPs are to consider outlawing paying for prostitutes as the Netherlands looks to deal with the rapidly growing problem of human trafficking,” reports the Amsterdam Herald (19 Feb). The Christian Union party is sending one of its MPs, Gert-Jan Segers in a fact finding trip to Sweden being led by the PvdA (Labor Party) and supported by the Deputy Prime Minister, Lodewijk Asscher.

Netherlands new Lesbian Parenthood Law

The Dutch House of Representatives has accepted  (2 Nov) a bill from State Secretary Teeven which provides for a situation where the partner of the mother of the child (duo mother) can become a legal parent without having to go to court. The duo mother can become the legal parent automatically by means of marriage if the sperm donor is unknown. The Govt says the central focus of the bill is the interest of the child. The Govt says that each year 200-400 mothers will makes use of this new law. For Govt press release click here.

Dutch Euthanasia Efficiency

The West Australian March 2, 2012 p30, “Dutch start Mobile euthanasia teams”, tells about six new specialist teams that would criss-cross the netherlands to carry out euthanasia on patients whose own doctor had refused to kill them. The service is free. Each year a reported 3100 people are euthanased  in the Netherlands which was the first country to legalise the practice in 2002. Sunday Observance

The Dutch Christian Party with links to the Free Reformed Churches of the Netherlands, the ChristenUnie, has developed a petition calling for Sunday to be maintained as a day of rest to worship God. They hope to gather 1m signatures across Europe. ChristenUnie EU member Peter van Dalen said the petition was against shops being open on Sunday and called for the Sunday to be used for time with family and for attending church.
