Indigenous Justice

Although Indigenous Australians only make up 5% of young people in Australia, over one-third (38%) of those under juvenile justice supervision were Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, according to a report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The report Juvenile justice in Australia 2009-10, shows that 7,250 young people were under supervision on an average day in 2009-10. Data on WA statistics were not provided in the report. Diva Stores

Collective Shout delivered a 135 page change.org petition containing 6000 signatures in Diva stores recently across Australia. The petition called for Diva to stop selling Playboy products to children. Pro-Life Day

Across the globe, over 4000 colleges and high schools took part in the Pro-Life Day of Solidarity on October 16, 2011. The day has been held annually since 2004 as a way to help end abortion. The action this year was held in 56 countries, 80 ministries/businesses. 60 schools in Canada took part, 3 in Australia (including Notre Dame University in Fremantle). CDP Convention

On 19 Nov, 2011 the CDP Convention and Youth Forum will be held. It will include parliamentarians from both sides of politics as well as a panel of WA Christian leaders. In the afternoon the CDP AGM will be held as well as a speaker from Focus on the Youth. A panel discussion on the way ahead for Christian youth action and the influence in the public square will include Jamie van Burgel, Daniel Reed and an ACL and YWAM representative. Playboy Diva

Collective Shout writes that Diva, the jewellery and accessories store popular with teenage girls, is now selling Playboy branded jewellery. “‘Playboy’ is not just a ‘cute bunny’, but represents the global brand of the pornography industry.” Collective Shout writes.

Action: Collective Shout is asking people to boycott Diva and to sign a petition calling on Diva to remove the Playboy items from sale.

UNESCO Youth Opportunity
